I'm About to be Edguhmacated!

If the horribly misspelled title doesn't give it away, graduation is close. Really close. As in this time next week my bachelor's degree shall be conferred upon me.

Holy shit.

Literally since I was about five years old, college was this mystical place, where people came out smarter, and were capable of being future champions of society. I have literally dreamed of this for the past 20 years.

Now what?

That's the grand question now: now what do I do? My original plans have been squashed, so now I am back at square one, like most other college grads. Except I have one advantage, and that's having a job. That pays my bills. Sure, it's not what I studied for whatsoever, but at least I'm in a better position than most other college graduates. And it pays for my increased food costs, now that I can't eat gluten anymore.

Yeah, that happened. If I eat gluten you'd see me keel over as if I was a guy who just got a soccer ball to the crotch. And pretty quickly too.

At least I still have dairy. If I couldn't have dairy, I'd end it. I love cheese and ice cream too much.

But I massively digress. I graduate in a week, and I'm trying to find greater life goals, since my main one is now accomplished. Four years of overloading classes and working 3 to 4 jobs a semester are done.

Now I'll have free time. Which could be good or bad. All I know is that I can finally read for fun again. Which will be nice. And I'll finally read the books professors assigned for reading and enjoy it.

If any of them happen to be reading this: I'm sorry, but you assigned it, which means you forced it upon me. I'll retain enough to get me through class, that's it. Now I'll actually care. Sorry, tis the way of the world.

Besides reading, I know I should get a social life. Or maybe travel more internationally. There's really nothing to hold me back, and I enjoyed my solo trip to Florida immensely. So maybe another solo trip in the next six months?

You never know.

Anyway, I have been procrastinating a paper on the comparison of Maoism, Marxism and Leninism for too long. I just felt like writing again.

Have a good Saturday night.

Stuff's Gone Down

Hey everyone,

I know, I seem to do this every time, I forget to blog. Except genuinely, I haven't felt like it, since a lot has gone down.

Last time I wrote, I was excited for Omar's arrival, and couldn't have been happier. Literally three and a half weeks later, I was single again, since he didn't feel 'the same' anymore, and nothing I could do would change that. So, I had to deal with my heart being absolutely destroyed, and I've been trying to get by in that emotional regard. Almost three months later, I'm still having a hard time.

Then, I have a myriad of family issues going on that I'd love to discuss, but as others are involved, I shall not out of respect for them. Here's a hint though: this stuff has been affecting a lot of Americans in the past 10 years.

So in essence, life's been...something.

However, I do graduate in May, which is something good. Yet I'm probably still going to still be working at the Mount Washington, just because it's a job that I know can pay the bills, especially after graduation. My parents can't help me after I graduate, so I got to do what I got to do.

Still, I haven't forgotten the big picture. I'm looking at plans for down the road, I just am not sure what to do while still making enough to pay my bills. And I know eventually I want a Masters degree. I just can't stand the thought of more school. Dear God no.

But, it shall happen, I just need to find something to do in the interim. I'm starting to think about the Peace Corps again, that may be a viability, I'm young, and loan forgiveness is an amazing thing. Besides, I'd see the world, and definitely have stories to tell when I got back. Take that, Bilbo Baggins.

Anyhow, I just wanted people know that I'm alive. It will probably be a while once again, and if so, I apologize.

Happy weekend, everyone.

13 Days From Now We're Supposed To Be Dead

Not really. And if you believe it...then we shall have a friend timeout. But that headline got your attention, didn't it?

Anyhow, I figured I'd update the world about my life right now, as I'm heading into the last week of classes and finals, so I may disappear from the internet.

So, last time I wrote, I was preparing for Omar's arrival to the United States. And now, he's here, which makes me incredibly happy like one could not believe. Seriously, Christmas came early for me. I can actually see him and not fight with Skype for half the night.

I'm also finishing up my capstone project (a.k.a., senior thesis), and when that thing's done, I'm dancing for friggin joy. I like the professor, but Jesus H. Christ, it's stressful. That's actually  been about 90 percent of my academic stress this semester, so when that's done, I'll be happy.

I'll also be happy for the break, as I won't have five, soon to be six jobs to contend with.

Yes, five. I counted them, and below, is the list:

1. HUB Building Manager
2. Tutoring some students.
3. Babysitting a pretty awesome kid
4. Doing some freelance PR work for a landlord
5. Being an Editor for The Clock

And what is number 6? Number 6 is my return to the Mount Washington Hotel.

If I had it my way, I'd have only one job. But alas, I'm paying for my bills myself, and I really don't feel like extending my student loans out any further than necessary. Between a car payment, electricity, cable and internet, gas, credit card bills and student loans, I need to work. It's just none of the jobs give me enough hours, since I'm in college and also have classes.

I need to graduate next semester. Actually, the ending of the world wouldn't be all that bad, as then I wouldn't have to worry about money. However, I like living a lot more.

Besides, I have my Spanish final that day, and I'd be pissed if I died during a final. That would be cruel indeed.

Anyway, I'm going to continue to work on projects and what not. Have a good weekend everyone.

Childish Excitement

I hope everyone is having a good Friday night. And rejoice ladies, No-Shave November is ending...There are just some men in the world who should not attempt to grow beards...you guys know who you are. Seriously, if you look like you're only starting puberty when you grow a beard...just stop, ladies will run away from you.

Anyhow, this post will be short and to the point, as I wish to share with the world that Mr. Omar Tolosa will be arriving to the United States in a matter of hours. Yay!

Yes, I'm blogging about my boyfriend's arrival to the U.S., and that's all I have to talk about. Deal with it.

But I digress. As I have to head to Logan relatively early, this is all I'm going to post about tonight. I apologize if you were looking for something substantial, the happiness of seeing the one I love after not seeing him in person for almost four months is blinding me a bit.

So, I hope everyone has a good weekend, and a good start to the holiday season.

(Disclaimer: I've had 5 tequila sunrises tonight, so my writing skills are somewhat shot. I apologize, but no editing will take place. When I'm sober, I may find a laugh in this.)

Once again, have a great weekend!

Walmart and Other Retailers...Why?

Happy Post-Election 2012 everyone, we survived the onslaught of ads.

I hope everyone is having a good Sunday before Thanksgiving. I really should be doing homework right now, but...I say no, I think my professors want to cause me extreme mental stress, or they wish to waste my time. I damn well deserve to procrastinate.

So, if we couldn't tell, I'm pretty ready for Thanksgiving break, and seeing my family and what not. However, for as much as I like the holiday season, I also hate it with a passion. Why do I have such a relationship?

Those bastards at the major retailers. I went to a mall last week (I believe it was November 10), and the mall was completely set up for Christmas.Walmart was even earlier, they had their Christmas supplies out before Halloween.

By starting the holiday season back in October, I feel like the holidays are starting to lose their special feel, like what I remember as a kid. I know things do change as we get older, but Christmas definitely did not start right after Halloween. It's ridiculous, and I am incredibly grateful for Nordstrom and their one holiday at a time policy.

Along the same lines, I think it's awful that the retailers are going to be open earlier on Thanksgiving night. Not only does the zoo start early, but their workers deserve a day with their families. Those retailers are depriving them of a holiday with their families. Some of those families don't see each other outside of Thanksgiving, and the companies' greed to get their money even earlier deprives their workers of a holiday that means something.

It's sadly part of our culture that working until we die seems more important than family, and employers use that to their advantage. Let's face it, Americans are working harder, and not making enough money. So, they work harder to survive,  and are in many cases quite unhappy with the situation. However, the workers do it so they don't risk having problems at work, or risk being first on the chopping block when the job cuts come.

It's gotten out of hand. People deserve that time, and with so many people still going to go to the Black Friday sales, I think the retailers can give their employees a day. Besides, those employees have a month of hell ahead of them. Shame on those retailers.

Perhaps my view is biased, as I did miss Thanksgiving with my family last year, due to working at The Mount Washington. While the Resort did give us Thanksgiving dinner, it wasn't the same.

This year, I'm spending time with my family, and I'm going to make my presents this year, since I'm a poor college student. This may be my last major holiday with my family, since I plan on going to Argentina after I graduate. So, I'm enjoying this one.

And if anyone tries to take time away from my family...I will find you...

It's the Final Countdown

Yes, it's the final countdown to when all of those damn ads on TV, Radio and Facebook stop assaulting my eyesight and my ears. And I've gotten damn sick of the robocalls at 11:30 at night. I'm on the Do Not Call List. Seriously, cut the crap.

I'm a self declared political junkie, and when I've had it, you know it's bad.

So, Election Day is just around the corner, and this election seems like it's going to be incredibly close. So, people need to vote. I mean seriously, we can't tell the world that American Democracy is great if we ourselves don't vote. I only ask that people educate themselves on the issues beforehand. I've heard stories today about how people let their five year old choose who their voting for.

Last I checked, you don't let your kid have more than two cookies a day. If your kid can't drive, they shouldn't vote (interesting story, sixteen year old kids can vote in Argentina now...look it up, it's true. But I digress), and you probably shouldn't either if you feel that way about the elections.

Otherwise, when the person you didn't want getting in gets in, I don't wish to hear you complain. I mean, your child will obviously pick either the elephant or the donkey, whichever is interesting at the time.

I could only imagine if there were robots or dinosaurs as symbols of the political parties. Dear God, that would be awful.

Or it could be interesting, people might actually pay attention to the party platforms if they have something different catch their eye.

But to get back on point. Anyone who can vote in the United States should do so on Tuesday. If you don't, then I feel that you've lost the right to complain about the outcome if it doesn't go your way. And if people are having a hard time being allowed to vote or getting to a polling station, it should be immediately be reported. No one has the right to take your vote away, Democrat, Republican or otherwise.

That's my tirade for the week. And if you think your vote doesn't count...Remember the 2000 Election. We got George W. Bush by a few hundred votes. Need I say more?

Preparation

So, between the emails from the NH Electric Co-op, Time Warner Cable and other random posts on Facebook from meteorologists who graduated from Plymouth, I figured I would blog before I'm potentially out of power for a while.

Considering Vermont and New Hampshire don't have a State of Emergency issued...Do you not remember Irene? Irene left a mess, and this one is due to be stronger. I mean, I'd rather be safe than sorry, but if don't wish to, that's your prerogative.

Anyhow, I've collected some water, and I'm starting to freeze bags of water, just in case I lose power for a while. We don't have a flood warning, but we do have a high wind watch. We have trees. I'm putting two and two together.

Anyhow, I'm going to move my car, since it's parked under a tree, and I already had a tree fall on it once. I'm not pushing my luck.

For everyone on the East Coast, be careful. I'll try to update during, but if I lose power, well then...I'll update afterwards.

Now if you excuse me, I'm getting some perishable food in my stomach before I have to throw it away.

Sidenote, I think the corporate heads at the Weather Channel are grateful for events like this, in a financial sense (if they pray for it everyday, they need to be committed. But I doubt that and digress). You know only 300 people watch Coast Guard: Alaska religiously.

Update as of 7:30 pm EST: Plymouth State Cancelled classes tomorrow. Almost as a rule, Plymouth waits until the weather is on top of us and the professors can't make it to the campus. When they cancel ahead of time, shit's going to get serious. Also, we now have a flood watch. I'll keep people updated.
